Defense Against Demons
There is Hope!!
Any human can take defenses against demons. Instead of telling people how to defend themselves against demons, I am listing many of the ways that people have protected themselves from demons throughout time. Therefore it is up to you to choose how you would like to defend against demons.
Warning: If a demon slayer uses these methods, there may be less demons around to slay.
Music
Most religious songs would drive me out of a room back when I was a Satanist, so I know that playing or singing a hymn would make most demons want to get out of the area. Although I disagree with many of the demonBuster.com articles, if you put demonBuster.com on your computer with the site's accompanying MIDI music, demons will seriously want to leave the room.
Fire
On the day of Halloween, a day that has traditionally been considered a day that the demons and ghosts are able to sneak through the barrier to earth. For protection against demons on Halloween, it was a tradition to put lighted jackolanterns in front of the house to scare away evil spirits. Nowadays, people usually take jackolanterns for granted, and even associate jackolanterns with the other spirits that come out on Halloween.
Walpurgis Night is much like Halloween, it is just that it is worse. Walpurgis Night (The last day of April), is much less known, because the pagan holiday was replaced by a celebration of Saint Walpurgis. Not only was Walpurgis Night worse than Halloween, it is now considered the most important Satanic holiday, 2nd only to an individual's own birthday. Instead of using lighted jackolanterns like on Halloween, people used to build huge bonfires to scare away evil spirits on Walpurgis Night. Traditionally, the morning of the next day (May Day) is believed to force all of the evil spirits back into Hell.
Scarecrows
Gargoyles have been used to scare away evil spirits for a long time. If anyone doubts that such a nasty looking creature can scare away other nasty looking creatures, just take a look at the gargoyles sitting atop gothic style churches. Gargoyles were first designed to be a type of gutter device for rain, but quickly evolved into a stone creature that not only looks cool, but guards many of the most famous and respected churches in the world. I can usually get a medium sized concrete gargoyle for about 25 dollars. Small gargoyles in the dollar store are definitely the perfect price, but they wear away when placed outside, literally crumbling after half a year of constant weathering. One of my gargoyles has a chain around his neck, and looks just like a pittbull chained to the front of somebody's porch.
In the Orient, monkeys are thought of as "expellers of demons". I'm not talking about chimpanzees, baboons, and orangotangs; I'm talking about those cool monkeys that run around outside the Chinese and Japanese temples. The Great Monkey King of Chinese lore was known for slaying demons. Maybe having stuffed monkeys around might help expel demons, but I was kind of thinking like a house pet. Temple monkeys are very rarely domesticated if at all. But on the other hand, If there are temple monkeys running around, you know you are safe from demons. sources
Symbols
The pentagram (or pentacle) has been used to repel demons for hundreds of years. Most magic that doesn't come from a Satanic religion requires a drawn pentagram on the floor that the spell caster or spectators can stand in to be protected by demons. Although pentagrams can be drawn on walls and other such, it is tried and most probably true that if you are standing inside a pentagram drawn on the floor, a demon cannot enter the circle. Pentagrams are sometimes created with fire instead of by floor chalk drawings. While the pentagram represents man and the spirit, Satanists have turned the pentagram upside down (inverted), to represent the opposite - satan and the flesh. Rather than representing a person, the inverted pentagram is shaped like a goat head, which is called the baphomet that the knights templar used before the templar were destroyed by witch trials. Within the past few years, the Vatican has released the documentation of the Knights Templar witch trials, and the pope has officially announced that the Knights Templar did not practice witchcraft, worship a baphomet, and did not kiss black cats under the tail. The Catholic Church has also practically sainted all of the Nights Templar. Therefore the Satanist inverted pentagram is based on something that never existed, and has also copywrited the complete baphomet including the hebrew spelling of leviathan in the outer circle. Therefore, Blanch Barton's Satanic Church can sue you for using the inverted pentagram that includes the goat baphomet inside of it. Even though the Templar never worshipped a baphomet, virtually every magickal religion in wide practice today have at one time been inspired by the image and idea of the baphomet. Anyway, it is commonly accepted that demons cannot enter a pentagram on the floor, and are repelled by upright pentagrams or pentacles.
The Seal of Solomon, most commonly called the Star of David, never actually belonged to David. It was the symbol on the ring of David's son, Solomon. God gave King Solomon a ring that gave Solomon many powers, most of all control of demons. That provides the slim chance that the Temple of Solomon was actually constructed by enslaved demons. The Seal of Solomon is formed by two offset triangles, which represent the complete universe and unity. It has been suggested that a container (even a lamp) with the Star of David printed on it can seal a demon inside the container forever. Although Christianity has almost completely forgotten Solomon's ring and powers, belief in Solomon's ring and magick is still accepted by many Jews and by all Moslems. The Star of David didn't come into common use by Judaism until the Nazi regime branded the symbol on Jews, justified as the mark of Cain, and a convenient way to pick out the Jews during the Holocaust. Now the Star of David is on the flag of Israel. The Star of David is the symbol that was on Solomon's ring, and it is very conceivable that the symbol may have some power over demons. In a recent visit to a museum, I saw Jewish boxes with beautiful stones all over them and symbols, and were very nice and expensive. Although I do not know what the boxes are intended for, those boxes would trap a demon better than any other box I've ever seen.
The Cross of the Christian faith, is tried and true, and is a good symbol to fall back on regardless of the individual's beliefs. I don't think a cross can keep demons out of the room, but it is definitely a symbol to keep in mind when defending one's self against demons. Catholics and Protestants argue over whether or not Jesus should be depicted on crosses and I can not tell you which cross is better for repelling demons, but I do know that back when I was a Satanist I viewed the appearance of Jesus on the cross a painful unquestionable reminder of what The Cross truly represents.
When I was a Satanist, I used to use my desk as an alter, and usually associate the middle of the desk with summoning demons. After I started worshipping God and started an extreme hate toward demons, I knew something had to be done. I put the desk against the wall and no longer use it. Eventually I had the idea of putting a large container in the middle of the desk, and put religious items in it. Although I belong to no faith in particular, I hang 3 visible pendants out of the container (a Cross, Mother Mary, and Saint Christopher). Also in the container are Buddhist prayer beads, and in front of the container is a copy of the Protestant Christian Bible with a small gargoyle sitting on top of it. I haven't had the slightest problem or worry with demons in my room since I set up my little holy item collection.
Many people, I have noticed, have open Christian Bibles in their living room at all times. I look at it as a positive thing, although I never ask exactly why the Bible is in that same spot, open to a page. I usually assume that the displayed Bible is read on a regular basis and that the pages are turned almost every time I come over, but I am sure that there are a few people that display the open Bible in their living room only because it makes them feel better. Regardless of one's personal reasons for displaying the Bible, it is a common practice and could theoretically deter some demons to a certain extent.
Incense, Herbs, and Candles
Wiccans and Pagans specialize in the incense and candle category, but those ingredients are to repel evil spirits. Because Wicca does not believe that Hell or demons exist, none of those mixtures are tailored to repel demons specifically. Although Christians may place importance on frankincense and myrrh, during the time of Jesus virtually all incense contained some frankincense or myrrh. Incense, herbs, and candles have been used to enhance spiritual experiences and rituals by virtually every religion, even if it was not orthodox. Therefore I have no incense, herbs, or candles ingredients that I can recommend for repelling demons.
I have found a type of candle that may aid in protection against demons. The practice originates from Mexico, and most Mexicans are Christian Catholics. Somebody in Mexico started painting pictures of saints (mostly Mother Mary or Jesus) on tall glass containers, and filled them with a type of candle that burns for almost exactly 7 days. The candle of the saint (often the individual's patron saint) is to be lit throughout the week and is supposed to aid in prayers, protection, and general spirituality. It must also be said that the Catholic adoration and idea of saints is generally considered outright blasphemy by Protestant Christians. In America, the candles are easily found at flea markets, and are sometimes found in grocery stores in the Mexican food section.
Rituals for Purifying an area
There is a ritual that is a mandatory preparation for spells in the Thelemic religion. The ritual is called The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, and the ritual involves both speech and body movement, making The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram look a little bit like a very strange dance. The theory behind it is like drawing a pentagram on the floor to protect an area from demons, only there is no chalk drawing or geometry involved, and it covers a much wider area. It is not only useful for making sure there are no evil spirits around during spellcasting; the ritual can be used whenever a place needs to be cleansed of evil spirits or demons. Unlike most conjurings, it involves the invocations of angels instead of demons. On a personal note, because The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram involves the summoning of angels instead of demons, I was never able to perform the spell as a Satanist although I studied and was very interested in the spell.
Making an invisible The Sign of the Cross over one's own chest is said to be able to repel demons or purify one's self. Unlike spells and most other rituals, it can be completed within a few seconds with no preparation. The Sign of the Cross is used mostly for prayer and worship, although it does has at least some degree of power over demons. Although the motion is reserved mostly to Catholic Christians, I don't see why people from other beliefs cannot use it as well. The Sign of Cross plays a very important role in Catholic exorcisms. It is not important that one make the motion perfectly, but it certainly helps, and here is an article that tells exactly how to make the sign.
